30 December 2009, Battersea Park - HVMS Secures Substation & Cabling Contract
HVMS has secured a £1M contract from Wandsworth Council via EDF Energy Contracting to replace 6No. 11kV/415V substations in Battersea Park each of which provide 415V services for park exhibitions and small services.

Wandsworth Council, owners and operators of Battersea Park have undertaken to replace the existing HV/LV substations some of which was installed during the 1950’s. Health & Safety were key drivers in the client’s decision to invest in the electrical infrastructure as the existing HV switches in the sub-stations have been condemned as they are deemed dangerous to be operated ‘live’.

Each substation consists of MV switchgear, transformers and LV ACB’s contained within each the sub-station buildings. Much of the existing site cabling is old London Electricity cable consisting of hessian covered lead sheathed cable with no external over-sheath protection which will be replaced by HVMS. The HVMS scope includes replacing MV switchgear/cable, transformers and LV circuit breakers in six of the existing substation buildings including minor builders works, earthing and small power & lighting. The new switchgear will be jointed to the existing LV feeder cables inside the sub stations where possible.

HVMS will also undertake load monitoring to ensure suitability of sizing for the provision of temporary generators to support loads during change-over works.

Darren Scoley HVMS’ Site Manager adds “this contract is the result of several years effort on our behalf during which time the scope has changed several times, budgets provisioned, spent and re-provisioned but has ensured we’ve developed an excellent understanding of the requirements and can now look forward to finally getting on with the work.
