24 December 2008, The BRIT OVAL - HVMS Secures Substation & Cabling Contract
HVMS has secured a design and build contract to provide the BRIT Oval with new 11kV cabling and 11000/400V Substations and LV cabling to provide electrical power for a permanent floodlighting installation at the Brit Oval Cricket Ground in Kennington, London.

Surrey County Cricket Club (SCCC), owners and operators of the Brit Oval have undertaken to install permanent floodlighting at the 163 year old Kennington Oval in time for next years Twenty20 World Cup. The site existing maximum electrical capacity was not sufficient to support the new floodlighting loads and HVMS have worked closely with SCCC to establish the electrical infrastructure requirements.

In order to facilitate the extra load HVMS have been retained direct by SCCC to design and build the new HV/LV infrastructure requirements that include upgrading existing substations, providing two new 11kV substations and all associated HV/LV cabling to deliver the new floodlights with the required electrical power.

HVMS are the sites Authorised Persons and a result will also be managing the ‘Safe Working Systems’, i.e. responsible for all the safety documentation relating to shutdowns and working in/near live substations.
David Swadling, HVMS Commercial Director adds “HVMS has provided the Brit Oval with Engineers for Emergency Response duties in the past and we are pleased to see this relationship develop to the extent we can be involved on a design & build capacity at one of the worlds best known sporting arenas, of course I’m now hoping my medium paced seam does enough to get me a call up this summer!”
