23 December 2008, Hammersmith Hospital - HVMS Secures £1.2m Contract
HVMS has secured a HV/LV infrastructure contract worth in excess of £1.2m as Principal Contractor working directly for Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust at Hammersmith Hospital. The project which starts in January 2009 includes the supply and installation of completely new HV/LV infrastructure in the Main South Substation to serve the entire site and is under full Construction (Design and Management) Regulations.

Hammersmith is famous for its research achievements and has a large community of Imperial College London postgraduate medical students and researchers. It is home to the West London Renal and Transplant Centre, two large cancer treatment centres and a specialist cardiac service with a 24/7 primary angioplasty centre.

The Clinical Imaging Centre, which opened in June 2007, is the largest in Europe. The Medical Research Council’s Clinical Sciences Centre is based at the site and works in partnership with the hospital and Imperial College London. The HVMS scope includes the supply and installation of a new 11kV fixed pattern air insulated switchboard, Transformers, LV switchboard, associated HV/LV cabling, comprehensive earthing system with ancillary services to serve the whole site from the South Substation. Work incorporates civil trenching works and temporary generators. HVMS Managing Director Andrew Pierce adds “This project brings together several elements of Engineering Services HVMS have invested in, namely, trenching, jointing and Senior Authorised Persons. Taking operational control of distribution networks, managing change-overs/shutdowns and civil works are activities HVMS has been providing DNO’s with for some time and we are increasingly seeing a need to provide these services direct for Healthcare Trusts too”.
