23 December 2008, Ebbsfleet Off-Site Works - HVMS Secures £500K Cabling Contract
HVMS has secured a cabling contract worth nearly £500K to supply and install over 3km of 11kV cable, HV/LV package substations, a discrimination study and Senior Authorised Persons to manage the ‘Safe Systems of Work’. HVMS are responsible for all civil works incorporating 1500m of trenching, road closures and traffic management. HVMS is working as sub-contractor to Birse Civils on the Land Securities Ebbsfleet Valley Development Project and is the latest of several cabling contracts HVMS have secured from Birse Civils.

The works comprise of the contestable works to design, supply, install, commission and set to work two new 11kV cables to connect two existing EDF Energy substations at Springhead to two existing 11kV cables at Weldon. The works also include the design, supply installation of two 11kV Ring Main Units, transformers with LV cabinets, concrete plinths, GRP housings and associated HV terminations and breach joints.

The Land Securities project potentially worth over £500m involves providing the utility services for one of Europe's largest urban regeneration projects. The catalyst for development is the new Channel Tunnel Rail Link which will provide a frequent and fast journey time of just 15 minutes to Kings Cross St Pancras from the new Ebbsfleet International Station located at the centre of Land Securities’ land holdings. The area is to be transformed into a vibrant new mixed-use destination with high-quality housing, employment opportunities and open space. Tim Seddon, Development Director for Land Securities, said: “The significance of ensuring timely delivery and appropriate capacity of infrastructure cannot be underestimated, as it is an essential part of the regeneration of Kent Thameside.”
