23 December 2008, Beckton STW - HVMS Secures £1.5m Cabling Contract
HVMS has secured a cabling contract worth in excess of £1.5m to supply and install over 11km of 33kV, 6.6kV and 3.3kV cable for Laing O’Rourke at the Thames Water Utilities site Beckton Sewage Treatment Works. The contract also includes for HVMS to manage the ‘Safe Systems of Work’ through the provision of specialist High Voltage Senior Authorised Persons (SAP’s) responsible for managing shutdowns, safety documentation and the integrated system commissioning of the High Voltage Distribution Network.
Beckton is the largest sewage treatment works in the UK and is located in the London Borough of Newham. The sewage treatment works serves a wide area of London to the north of the River Thames, and treats daily sewage from 3.4 million Londoners. The project forms part of Thames Water’s Asset Management Plan AMP4 and aims to improve reliability, availability, performance, H&S and energy efficiency of the existing works.
HVMS Engineering Manager Mark McGovern confirms “This project represents a significant opportunity for HVMS to develop its experience in the Water Industry and in particular with Laing O’Rourke and Thames Water. HVMS already undertake similar activities for DNO’s and in the Building Services sector and is now able to bring this expertise to the Water Industry”.
