HVMS secure +£2M HV DC Switchgear Renewal Contract from Network Rail

HVMS have been successful in securing a design & build contract direct from Network Rail for the installation of new HV DC switchgear/circuit breakers within the Surrey and Middlesex Routes

The 7 sites are:

  • Balham 
  • Mitcham Junction  
  • Selhurst
  • Sutton
  • Tulse Hill
  • Victoria
  • Waddon

The general HVMS scope of work required for each substation includes the installation of DC Switchgear, renewal of Battery Chargers and DC cabling where necessary. The project will be delivered through work packages by 2013/14. The scope of work involves:

  • Installation, testing and commissioning of new DC switchgear;
  • Removal of the existing DC switchgear;
  • Offloading, erection and installation at site, of new switchgear;
  • Removal of any Asbestos associated with the switchgear;
  • Installation, testing and commissioning of new indoor 50V battery charger, Inclusive of autonomy testing of any new batteries;
  • Removal of the existing battery charger;
  • Removal, where required, and disposal of existing MITS equipment;
  • Installation, testing and commissioning of newly installed DC Switchgear.
  • Installation, testing and commissioning, where required, of LV domestic installation and services (lighting and standby lighting);
  • Modification, where required, to existing SCADA arrangements;
  • Modification, where required, to existing Protection arrangements;
  • Allowance in the design for future provision of SCD.

HVMS’ Commercial Manager Alex Searle confirmed “this contract puts a further ‘marker in the sand’ that the success of HVMS on the railway infrastructure is being recognised by Network Rail. We are pleased to be able to develop our relationship further with the Sussex delivery team of Network Rail and look forward to the successful delivery of the project.”
