Job Title: Commercial Engineer (QS)
Location: Swanley
Department: Sales / Private Networks
Hours: 08.00 17.00 Monday - Friday
Main Purpose: Working out of the Swanley office under limited supervision from the commercial Director and from time to time HVMS Project Managers. Participates in the development and implementation of commercial project delivery in a conventional Quantity Surveyor capacity. Prepares financial and/or operational analyses and reports, prepares monthly applications, audits current projects to monitor and improve purchasing functions and ultimately margin delivery of efficiency of HVMS projects. Provides project support in the preparation of tenders and where necessary project management of electrical HV/LV infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepares monthly applications on live projects.
Provide management with a monthly cost/income analysis on live projects.
Prepare and present cost/income accruals monthly to Engineering Manager.
Liaise with HVMS project managers to ensure all labour and material costs are captured and recorded on projects.
Negotiate commercial agreements/settlements with clients to ensure invoicing queries and bad debts are minimised.
Negotiate with suppliers and sub-contractors to secure best value for HVMS.
Prepare tenders for new sales enquiries.
Project management of HVMS projects (£30K-£2000K).
Provides advice and assistance to Commercial Director in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of modifications to existing operations, systems, and procedures.
Represents the organisation at various business meetings.
Effective proactive liaison with operational departments re resourcing internally and externally.
Provide professional advice and commercial support to the other areas of the business, including Utilities, Private Networks and occasionally HVMS sister company TSL.
Competencies:
B.Sc in Quantity Surveying and or HND in Building Studies.
Member of the RICS
Strong background in quantity surveying, and project management and estimating.
Strong background in electrical projects incorporating HV/LV infrastructure.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Knowledge of project finance, budgeting, cost estimating.
Advance IT skills including Microsoft Excel and Project.
Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
Ability to develop and prepare comprehensive financial analyses of projects.
Knowledge of business practices and procedures.
Knowledge of applicable legislation, standards, policies and procedures within quantity surveying.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
